We took a family trip to California, and if you are going to travel, you may as well find a race to do while you are away right? Well, we settled on the Rock It Racing series trail run in El Moro Canyon at Laguna Beach. The race was moderately priced and included a shirt and finisher medals. What more could I ask for.

It was a hot day and the race had options of either 6K or 10 miles (both chip timed). My wife and I did the 6K. It was a very well organized event and we picked up our race packages at the race site before the race on Mar 26, 2016. The first kilometre was pretty flat and that was followed by a solid mile straight up hill. The course was tough and the views were amazing. We ran up from sea level to peaks with views of the entire canyon and views of the ocean.

There was one water/ sport drink station that we passed twice, but we were happy that we carried our own water because the sun was beating on us the whole time. Another fun perk was that there photographers on the course in 4 spots and free pictures were posted within a day of the race finishing.

After the race we were awarded our medals and grabbed a free Gatorade and some free bags of popcorn, sport licorice, and other swag.

The finisher medal is a custom cast medal naming the event and the ribbon even named the event and year. Very high quality, surprising considering the event only had less than 400 competitors. If the opportunity ever presents itself to run another Rock It Racing event, we will definitely sign up. I would run this course every year if I could, but alas, we do not make it to California that often.
